With 18 NCAA Division II athletic teams, Â鶹¾«Æ· offers you ample opportunity to participate in and attend sporting activities throughout the school year. Whether you’re an athlete yourself, or a fan, you’ll love how Marauders athletics contributes to campus life. If you aren’t a sports fan yet, you will be!

​​The Â鶹¾«Æ· is a member of NCAA Division II and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and offers ten varsity sports for women and eight for men. Â鶹¾«Æ· became an active member of the NCAA in 2007. The process took only three years after the NCAA waived the final two provisional years, making the Â鶹¾«Æ·'s transition to active membership one of the quickest in the organization's history. The Marauders began competing in the NSIC in the fall of 2006.

Home of National Champions

Â鶹¾«Æ· is a part of some of the best competition in collegiate athletics and home to multiple NCAA National Champions. Our athletes are standouts in their pursuit of greatness through virtue.

Jacob Strausbaugh won the 2026 NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championship at 133lbs during his freshman campaign as a Marauder. The All-American and 2026 NSIC Rookie of the Year went 9-0 in duals throughout the season while helping his team to a Top-10 nationwide finish.
Reece Barnhardt (’25) claimed gold at the 2025 NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championship at 133lbs. The NSIC Wrestler of the Year and four-time All-American went undefeated in duals, 13-0, his senior year. Adam Aho coached Barnhardt and the Marauders to a sixth-place finish at nationals in 2025, the highest finish in program history.
D’Andra Morris-McLennon (’22) is a two-time NCAA Division II National Champion in triple jump. Taking home gold in both indoor and outdoor, Morris added hardware to her many accolades. She is the 2022 NCAA Division II Women’s Indoor Track and Field National Scholar Field Athlete of the Year, 2022 NCAA Division II Women’s Outdoor Track and Field National Co-Scholar Field Athlete of the Year, an eight-time All American, ten-time NSIC Champion, and 2022 NSIC Indoor and Outdoor Athlete of the Year. Morris was coached by Cale Korbelik, who currently carries on the tradition of excellence established by Coach Dennis Newell and Coach Mike Thorson.
Ida Narbuvoll (‘20, ’22) is a two-time NCAA Division II track and field national champion. She is among the many record-setting Marauders to don the blue and orange uniform. This premier program was led by one of the top coaches in the country, Hall of Famer, USTFCCCA National Coach of the Year, and winner of 23 NSIC championships, Â鶹¾«Æ· Head Track and Field and Cross Country Coach Dennis Newell. He has continued the winning tradition of another legendary head coach, Hall of Famer Mike Thorson.
Alexis Zeis (’18) is a three-time NCAA Division II National Champion winning the indoor 5,000-meter in 2018, the indoor 5,000-meter in 2017, and the cross country championship in 2015. Coached by Dennis Newell, Zeis was a senior leader for the second place finish at the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships and the fourth-place finish at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships, both program bests.

We launched our strategic plan, Greatness Through Virtue, which details our mission to create a department-wide culture committed to individual and collective greatness through virtuous leadership. It’s our game plan to become the preeminent intercollegiate athletic department for developing the greatness within each human person through the practice of virtue and the formation of authentic friendships. We are pursuing greatness through virtue – for Life.
